Asahi Shokuhin: Serving Up Improvements with AMD Ryzen Processors
Apr 09, 2025

When the tech industry talks about corporate PC refresh cycles, it's often in the context of technology companies. The need for fast, responsive computing isn't unique to Silicon Valley, however, and knowledge workers in a wide range of industries can benefit from the speed and improved reliability modern processors offer.
AMD has published a case study that illustrates this point. When the food distribution leader Asahi Shokuhin was in dire need of a company-wide fleet refresh, it turned to PCs powered by AMD RyzenTM processors to meet its needs. While the company was initially trying to solve short-term problems, upgrading to AMD Ryzen processors wound up changing Asahi Shokuhin’s perspective on its Windows 11 upgrade path – an important consideration, given that Windows 10 is approaching its end-of-support date.
Here's Shinya Murata, the systems administrator for Asahi Shokuhin, discussing the impact AMD Ryzen processors had on daily operations. "Our previous PCs couldn’t handle the demands of Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365. The high CPU usage led to frequent slowdowns and disruptions."
As the study details, such disruptions weren't trivial. Asahi Shokuhin's previous laptops and desktops experienced thermal problems that disrupted web conferences and prevented WiFi connections from working properly. With 120 locations across Japan, the food distributor needed robust support and valued the fact that HP Japan will send service teams to conduct on-site repairs.
Moving away from aging, legacy platforms and on to PCs powered by AMD Ryzen processors has even improved basic IT interactions for rank-and-file workers. “The new PCs boot up in just a few seconds, compared to the five minutes it took on our old PCs. This alone has made a significant difference in our daily operations," said Murata. "Before switching to AMD Ryzen CPU-powered PCs, our employees had to arrive early to log in on time due to slow boot-up speeds. Now, they can log in just 30 seconds, making their mornings less stressful."
Companies looking for additional security features, manageability tools, and enterprise-grade stability and reliability should additionally consider AMD RyzenTM PRO processors. All AMD Ryzen PRO processors support an array of AMD PRO technologies, including AMD Secure Processor, AMD Shadow Stack, and AMD Secure Boot. The AMD PRO technology suite also includes advanced tools for simplifying PC deployments and handling remote or cloud-based management. According to a study performed by Principled Technologies, AMD Ryzen PRO processors can deploy up to 41.2% faster than laptops powered by competitor microprocessors1.
With Windows 10 support ending on October 14, 2025, Asahi Shokuhin has already begun to consider its plan for Windows 11 deployment. The company feels confident it is ready for the upgrade, thanks in no small part to the improved experience it had with Windows 10 and AMD Ryzen microprocessors. "When Windows 10 faces its end of life, we’re ready to upgrade to Windows 11,” Murata stated. "We’re now in a much better position to adapt to new technologies and work environments, thanks to the flexibility and performance of our AMD Ryzen CPU-powered PCs."
