AMD GPU Security Vulnerabilities
AMD ID: AMD-SB-6016
Potential Impact: Varies by CVE, see descriptions below
Severity: Varies by CVE, see descriptions below
Summary
Potential security vulnerabilities in the Satellite Management Controller (SMC) in AMD Instinct™ MI300X accelerators were discovered during internal audit/penetration testing when using Redfish® API commands. (Redfish is a network standard and application programming interface (API) for the management of servers, networks, storage devices, facilities equipment). These vulnerabilities could potentially cause denial of service and/or data corruption. Please see the Mitigation section below for Mitigation recommendations available to address these issues.

CVE Description |
CVE-2024-21936 |
CVSS 3.1: 7.7 (High) CVSS 4.0: 7.1 (High) |
Improper input validation in Satellite Management Controller (SMC) may allow an attacker with privileges to send multiple manipulated Redfish® API commands, causing service processes like OpenBMC to crash and reset, potentially resulting in denial of service. |
CVE-2024-21927
|
CVSS 3.1: 5.0 (Medium) CVSS 4.0: 5.3 (Medium) |
Improper input validation in Satellite Management Controller (SMC) may allow an attacker with privileges to use certain special characters in manipulated Redfish API commands causing service processes like OpenBMC to crash and reset, potentially resulting in denial of service. |
CVE-2024-21935
|
CVSS 3.1: 5.0 (Medium) CVSS 4.0: 5.3 (Medium) |
Improper input validation in Satellite Management Controller (SMC) may allow an attacker with privileges to manipulate Redfish API commands to remove files from the local root directory, potentially resulting in data corruption. |
Mitigation
AMD recommends updating AMD Instinct™ MI300X accelerators to BKC 24.10 or later version.
