AMD FreeSync Requirements

An AMD FreeSync™ capable monitor and a supported AMD Radeon™ Graphics card or an AMD A-Series APU is required. AMD FreeSync currently works with applications using DirectX® 9 or higher.

Monitor Configuration

Please ensure that the AMD FreeSync capable monitor has been properly configured. Using the On Screen Display (OSD) controls on the monitor, verify that:

  1. AMD FreeSync is enabled
  2. Anti-Blur is disabled
  3. DisplayPort is set to 1.2 or higher

Since not all of these settings may be available or may be described differently depending on the make and model of the monitor, please refer to the monitor's user manual.

Note! To take advantage of the full capabilities of the monitor, installing the latest monitor driver provided by the manufacturer may be required.

Enabling AMD FreeSync in Radeon Settings

First ensure that the graphics device has the latest driver successfully installed. For information on how to install the latest graphics driver, please refer to article: How-To Install Radeon™ Software on a Windows® Based System

After installing the display driver, FreeSync™ should be enabled by default in Radeon Settings.  To verify that FreeSync is enabled in the driver:

  1. Open Radeon Settings. This can be done in any of the following ways:
  • Right click on your desktop and select AMD Radeon Settings.
  • Click on the Radeon Settings icon in the System Tray
  • Select Radeon Settings from the Programs menu
  1. Select Display
  1. Confirm that AMD FreeSync is On.  AMD FreeSync can also be turned off from this menu.
  1. Once changes have been made, close Radeon Settings.

Adjusting AMD FreeSync Within Individual Application Profiles

Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 17.12.1 introduced a new feature that allows AMD FreeSync™ to be adjusted on a per application profile basis.

Once the profile has been created there are three options to adjust AMD FreeSync for the application, which are:

  • AMD Optimized – This is the default option which will automatically select the optimal AMD FreeSync setting (On/Off).
  • On – Enables Radeon FreeSync.
  • Off – Disables Radeon FreeSync

NOTE! AMD FreeSync can only be adjusted on a per application basis if the AMD FreeSync option is set to On within the Display menu. For more information on enabling AMD FreeSync, please see the section above: Enabling AMD FreeSync™ in Radeon™ Settings.

Follow the steps below to adjust AMD FreeSync™ on a per application basis.

  1. Open Radeon Settings. This can be done in any of the following ways:
  • Right click on your desktop and select AMD Radeon Settings.

 

  • Click on the Radeon Settings icon in the System Tray.
  • Select AMD Radeon Settings from the Programs menu.
  1. Select the Gaming tab
  1. Select your desired application, Battlefield 1 is used in this example.
  1. Set AMD FreeSync to On or Off
  1. Once the selection has been made close Radeon Settings.
