Set Up and Configure AMD Eyefinity

AMD Eyefinity Overview

AMD Eyefinity technology allows two or more displays to be combined into a single large desktop.  When displays are combined the desktop resolution and workspace area increase per the number of displays in the group, with each display showing a portion of the desktop.  The final resolution is the horizontal and/or vertical sum of the individual monitors.

For example:  Three 1920x1080 displays arranged in a horizontal 3x1 AMD Eyefinity mode would create a desktop area of 5760x1080.

NOTE!

• AMD Eyefinity is currently supported on Microsoft® Windows® 7 and Windows 10.
• Only one AMD Eyefinity display group can be created per graphics card.
• An AMD Eyefinity display group cannot span across multiple graphics cards.
• The maximum number of supported displays in an AMD Eyefinity display group will vary depending on the graphics card.

Setting Up AMD Eyefinity Display Group

Before you start creating an AMD Eyefinity display group, please use Windows® Display Settings to configure and arrange your displays in the desired order.  For help, please refer to: How to Configure Displays in Duplicated and Extended Modes

NOTE!  The following instructions are based on Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.9.1.  Please ensure that Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.9.1 or later is installed before proceeding.

To create an AMD Eyefinity display group:

1. Right click on your desktop and select AMD Radeon Settings

2. Click Eyefinity within AMD Radeon Settings:

3. Click Quick Setup to create an AMD Eyefinity display group

NOTE!  Quick Setup will automatically create an AMD Eyefinity display group based on the arrangement specified using Windows Display Settings.

4. Once the AMD Eyefinity display group has been created, the following options will be available:
   • Discard – Deletes the current AMD Eyefinity display group and reverts to the previous display configuration.
   • Arrange Displays – Adjust the position of each display within the AMD Eyefinity display group.
   • Try Advanced Setup – Allows customization of the AMD Eyefinity display group.

5. If the mouse does not move across the displays in the expected order, use Arrange Displays to specify the placement of the displays in the AMD Eyefinity display group

The onscreen guide will show a grid representation of the display group and one of the physical displays will have a blue background.  Click on the box in the grid that matches the location of the highlighted display. 

In this example, the display on the left has a blue background.  Click on the left most box in the grid to confirm its position.

Once the first displays position has been confirmed, another display will appear with a blue background.  Click on the box in the grid that matches the physical position of the display.  This process continues depending on the number of displays used in the group.  However, the last display's position will be applied automatically.

6. The display arrangement is now complete, close Radeon Settings to exit.

Customizing AMD Eyefinity Display Group

After an AMD Eyefinity display group has been created it can be customized using Try Advanced Setup.  This will launch Radeon Additional Settings making the following AMD Eyefinity Multi-Display options available:

• Set Preferred Display
• Positions Windows Taskbar
• Arrange Eyefinity Display Group 
• Disable Eyefinity Display Group
• Resize Desktop
• Customize Eyefinity Desktop Resolution
• Adjust Bezel Compensation

NOTE!  In order access the Try Advanced Setup option the displays must already be configured in AMD Eyefinity mode.  For information on how to create an AMD Eyefinity display group, please see section: Setting Up AMD Eyefinity Display Group.

NOTE!  The following instructions are based on Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.9.1.  Please ensure that Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.9.1 or later is installed before proceeding.

To access the AMD Eyefinity Multi-Display options via Try Advanced Setup, follow these steps:

1. Open AMD Radeon Settings by right-clicking on your desktop and select AMD Radeon Settings.

2. Click Eyefinity within AMD Radeon Settings.

3. Click Try Advanced Setup.

4. Radeon Additional Setting window will open and display the AMD Eyefinity Multi-Display options on the left navigation menu

AMD Eyefinity Multi-Display Options

The following options are available in Radeon Additional Settings which allows further customization of the active AMD Eyefinity display group:

• Set Preferred Display
• Positions Windows Taskbar
• Arrange Eyefinity Display Group 
• Disable Eyefinity Display Group
• Resize Desktop
• Customize Eyefinity Desktop Resolution
• Adjust Bezel Compensation

Set Preferred Display

For applications that do not support AMD Eyefinity mode, the preferred display is the display device upon which the application will be displayed.

To set the preferred display:

1. Select Set Preferred Display from the left navigation menu.

2. Choose the desired display and click Apply.

3. Click Yes to keep the changes

4. If no further customization is required, close Radeon Additional Settings.

Position Windows Taskbar

By default, the Windows Taskbar extends across all displays in a single row AMD Eyefinity display group.  In a multi-row AMD Eyefinity display group, the Windows Taskbar extends across the bottom row of displays.  The Position Windows Taskbar option allows positioning the Taskbar on a single display.

If you wish to configure the Taskbar for a single display:

1. Check the box for Position the Windows Taskbar on a single display and click Continue.

2. The Windows Taskbar should default to the bottom left most display in the AMD Eyefinity Display Group.

3. To move the Taskbar to another display, make sure that the Taskbar is unlocked by right-clicking on the Windows Taskbar and uncheck Lock the Taskbar, then drag and drop it to the desired display.  
   NOTE!  To return to the default setting, uncheck the box for Position the Windows Taskbar on a single display and click Continue.
    
4. If no further customization is required, close Radeon Additional Settings.

Arrange Eyefinity Display Group

If the mouse does not move across the displays in the expected order, use Arrange Displays to specify the placement of the displays in the AMD Eyefinity display group.

1. Click Arrange Eyefinity Desktop Group

2. The onscreen guide will show a grid representation of the display group and one of the physical displays will have a blue background.  Click on the box in the grid that matches the location of the highlighted display.

3. Once the first position has been confirmed, another physical display will now have a blue background.  Click on the box in the grid that matches the physical position of the display.  This process continues depending on the number of displays used in the group.  However, the last display's position will be applied automatically.

4. The display arrangement of the AMD Eyefinity display group is now complete.  Click Done.
    
5. If no further customization is required, close Radeon Additional Settings.

Resize Desktop

When the displays in an AMD Eyefinity display group have different resolutions, the desktop image may appear stretched or cropped. You can change how the desktop image is shown across your displays by resizing the AMD Eyefinity display group.

The Resize Desktop option allows the AMD Eyefinity display group desktop to use the following presets:

• Fill — Fills the entire area of each display with its own portion of the desktop. Depending on the resolution being used, this may cause the desktop to appear stretched on some of the displays.    
• Fit — Shows the entire desktop across all displays without cropping or stretching the desktop.  This may cause certain areas of the displays to appear blank.
• Expand — Resizes the Desktop to the height of the tallest display. This may lead to portions of the Desktop, including the Windows® Start menu and taskbar to appear cropped or missing on some of the displays.

NOTE!  The Customize Eyefinity Desktop Resolution option is only available when AMD Eyefinity display group desktop is set to Fill.

NOTE!  The Adjust Bezel Compensation option is only available when AMD Eyefinity display group desktop is set to Fit or Expand.

To apply an AMD Eyefinity display group desktop preset:

1. Select Resize Desktop and choose the desired option, then Click Next.

2. The Resize Desktop configuration is now complete. 

Customize Eyefinity Desktop Resolution

After applying the Fill preset using the Resize Desktop option, the Customize Eyefinity Desktop Resolution option should appear providing a selectable list of supported resolutions for your AMD Eyefinity display group in the Custom Resolution drop-down menu.

NOTE!  The Customize Eyefinity Desktop Resolution option is only available when Resize Desktop is set to Fill, Fit and Expand presets are not supported.

To begin adjusting the desktop resolution of the AMD Eyefinity display group:

1. Select Resize Desktop and choose Fit, then Click Next.

2. Click on Customize Eyefinity Desktop Resolution.

3. Use the Custom Resolution drop-down menu to select from the list of available resolutions.

NOTE!  The Current Desktop Resolution is displayed along with the Minimum Resolution and Maximum Resolution.  The minimum and maximum resolutions are automatically determined based on your displays and cannot be changed.

4. Select your preferred Custom Resolution and click Apply.
    
5. If no further customization is required, close Radeon Additional Settings.

Adjust Bezel Compensation

After applying either Fit or Expand preset using the Resize Desktop option, the Adjust Bezel Compensation option should appear allowing you to adjust the bezels (edges) of the displays.  

In an AMD Eyefinity display group, the thickness of the display bezels (edges) may cause the image to appear disjointed or not continuous.  To rectify this, use the Adjust Bezel Compensation option.

NOTE!  Adjust Bezel Compensation option is only available when Resize Desktop is set to Fit or Expand, Fill preset is not supported.

To being adjusting the bezels of the displays in the AMD Eyefinity display group:

1. Select Resize Desktop and choose Fit or Expand, then Click Next

2. Click on Adjust Bezel Compensation and then click Apply

3. The layout of the current AMD Eyefinity display group will be shown with a yellow triangle spanning across two adjacent displays. 
    
4. Use the Chevrons (arrow heads) to adjust the image until the edges of the triangle are aligned.  In the example below, the right chevron was used to align the edges of the triangle.
   

5. The bezel adjustment is now complete for the two leftmost monitors in the AMD Eyefinity display group.
    
6. Click on the directional arrow and repeat step 4 to adjust the next set of bezels.

7. When complete, click the X button and Yes to confirm

8. If no further customization is required, close Radeon Additional Settings.

Disable Eyefinity Display Group

If you wish to return the displays to their original layout as configured using Windows Display Settings, use the Disable Eyefinity Display Group option.

To disable the AMD Eyefinity display group, select Disable Eyefinity Display Group and click Apply.

Once the Eyefinity Group has been disabled it can be re-enabled by selecting Re-Enable Eyefinity Display Group and click Apply.
