Radeon™ Chill is a power-saving feature that dynamically regulates framerate based on your character and camera movements in-game. As your movement decreases, Radeon Chill reduces your gameplay frame rate, thus saving power and helping lowers GPU temperature.
Radeon Chill currently works for most titles using DirectX® 9, DirectX® 10, DirectX® 11, and DirectX® 12 and Vulkan®. For more advanced information about Radeon Chill, please visit the AMD Radeon™ Chill Technology page.
Radeon™ Anti-Lag is a feature that helps reduce input-to-response latency (“input lag”) by reducing the time passed between the game’s sampling of user controls and the output appearing on display. This allows for a more responsive gaming experience, a benefit to competitive gamers.
Radeon Anti-Lag is supported by AMD GPU Architectures, Graphics Core Next (GCN) and later on titles using DirectX® 11 in Windows® 7 and Windows® 10 64-bit. DirectX® 9 titles are supported by Radeon™ RX 5700 Series graphics only. AMD Crossfire™ configuration is not supported.
NOTE! Radeon™ Chill and Radeon™ Anti-Lag cannot be enabled at the same time. When Radeon Chill is enabled, Radeon Anti-Lag will automatically be disabled, and vice versa.
Configuring Radeon Chill
Radeon™ Chill is an optional feature which can be toggled on and off during gameplay by pressing an assigned hotkey. The default hotkey is F11 and can be changed under the Gaming/Global Settings/Global Graphics menu.
To change the default hotkey, within the Global Graphics menu, click the Chill Hotkey tile and press the hotkey of your choosing.
Radeon Chill can also be separately customized per game/application via application profiles within Radeon™ Settings or during gameplay using Radeon™ Overlay.
This document covers configuring Radeon Chill via application profiles. For information on how to configure Radeon Chill using Radeon™ Overlay, please refer to How to adjust Game Dynamics using Radeon Overlay section of article: Using Radeon™ Overlay to Adjust Gaming and Visual Settings
To customize Radeon Chill for a specific game/application, select the desired profile within Radeon Settings Gaming menu. For example, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.
NOTE! For information on how to create an application profile, please refer to Creating Application Profiles section of article: How to Configure AMD Radeon™ Settings to Get an Optimal Gaming Experience
By default, Radeon Chill is disabled within the game profile. Click on the Chill (FPS) tile to enable it. Once enabled, Radeon Chill provides the option to set the Chill Min and Chill Max values, as is shown in the example below:
Chill Min and Chill Max are frame rate caps that are applied based on your character and camera movements in-game.
- Chill Min – The minimum frame rate cap on static screens (the lowest setting is 30 FPS)
- Chill Max – The maximum frame rate cap with on-screen action (the highest setting is 300 FPS)
Starting with Radeon™ Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.7.1, Radeon Chill has been enhanced with auto-tuning making the default frame rate caps dependent on the capabilities of the attached (primary) display.
For fixed-refresh displays:
- The Chill Max value will match the peak refresh rate. For example: 60 FPS on a 60Hz display, and 144 FPS on a 144Hz display.
- The Chill Min value will be one-half of the peak refresh rate. For example: 30 FPS on a 60Hz display, and 72 FPS on a 144Hz display.
For Radeon FreeSync™ capable displays:
- The Chill Max value will match the peak refresh rate.
- The Chill Min value will match the minimum refresh rate of the display’s FreeSync range or one-half of the display's peak refresh rate, whichever is higher.
NOTE! Radeon Chill frame rate caps are read and changed when triggered by; system bootup, connecting a new primary display, or changing FreeSync mode.
Configuring Radeon Anti-Lag
Radeon™ Anti-lag is an optional feature which can be toggled on and off during gameplay by pressing an assigned hotkey. The default hotkey is Alt+L and can be changed under the Gaming/Global Settings/Global Graphics menu.
To change the default hotkey, within the Global Graphics menu, click the Radeon Anti-Lag Hotkey tile and press the hotkey of your choosing.
NOTE! Hotkey combinations must include the CTRL and/or ALT Keys. Do not choose a hotkey combination that is reserved by the operating system or another application (for example, ALT+F4 is used by Windows® to close the current application).
Radeon Anti-Lag can also be enabled on per game/application basis via application profiles within Radeon™ Settings or during gameplay using Radeon™ Overlay.
This document covers enabling Radeon Anti-Lag via application profiles, for information on how to enable Radeon Anti-Lag using Radeon™ Overlay, please refer to How to adjust Game Dynamics using Radeon Overlay section of article: Using Radeon™ Overlay to Adjust Gaming and Visual Settings
To enable Radeon Anti-Lag for a specific game/application, select the desired profile within Radeon™ Settings Gaming menu. For example, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.
By default, Radeon Anti-Lag is disabled within the game profile. Click on the Radeon Anti-Lag tile to turn it on.
When done, close Radeon Settings to exit.
