How to Determine the Authenticity of an AMD Boxed Processor

Every genuine AMD Ryzen™ and EPYC™ retail package is sealed with a tamper evident security label.

To confirm authenticity, make sure your Ryzen™ or EPYC™ retail package has a security label securely affixed to the box’s top flap that include the following features:

• Multi-layer color shifting graphic image of the AMD logo.
• A clear holographic stripe running vertically down the right side of the label that reads “VALID”.
• A QR code that will allow the customer to validate their processor with AMD.

4-Step Verification Process

1. Make sure your AMD Retail product is sealed with no signs of tampering.

2. Look for the shift and hologram on the security label to confirm authenticity.

Left Tilt - Image changes to silver pattern with black background.

Center - Image changes to silver pattern with red core and black background.

Right Tilt - Image changes to red core with black background.

Clear Holographic Strip - VALID with wavy lines. The stripe is oriented vertically down the right side of the label.

3. Scan the QR code on the label, to verify.

4. Confirm the CPU serial marking in the window match the secured label serial marking.

All AMD Ryzen™ and EPYC™, AMD A-Series™, AMD Athlon™, and AMD FX™ retail products have a secure tamper evident authentication label. Counterfeit labels will not have the color shifting inks, or a holographic stripe and will often have inferior print quality.

If your processor(s) were purchased separately and not sold in a sealed, retail-packaged box, warranty service and questions regarding authenticity will be provided by the point of purchase not AMD.

Anti-Counterfeit

We understand there are reliability and safety risks posed to end users by the presence of counterfeit semiconductors in the supply chain. The AMD Product Investigations group manages the implementation of our company’s anti-counterfeit and anti-fraud strategies, which include measures to quickly identify, respond to, and deter illicit activity. AMD drives the ‘design-in’ of tamper-evident product packaging along with online resources to educate consumers and advocate product authentication. AMD conducts continuous monitoring of the sales channel to help ensure product and pricing integrity worldwide and enforcement of corrective actions and non-compliance protocols.

Supply Chain Security

In order to improve product integrity, AMD has established an extensive set of controls to help ensure parts are securely manufactured, assembled, tested, uniquely tracked, marked, stored, and transported from manufacture to authorized distribution.

Authorized Distribution

AMD encourages purchases exclusively from authorized sources to help ensure superior quality and reliability levels. Once the components leave the authorized channel, there is no assurance that the component will remain legitimate or functional. Any purchase of AMD parts on the open market carries with it the risk of acquiring substandard material. AMD recommends consumers and businesses buy AMD processors only from authorized distributors and vendors.
