AMD Adaptive SoCs
The AMD SoC portfolio integrates the software programmability of a processor with the hardware programmability of an FPGA.
Embedded networking that is deterministic by design
Automation can only be as good as its access to momentary and historic information about the automated process. Industrial networks ensure the required transparency to gain continuous insight into the present status of the automation. At the same time, these networks transport management data, video/audio data, software up- and downloads and finally peer-to-peer data from and to every connected IoT device.
It is called “real time” when a network can assure which time is needed for a point-to-point data transfer at maximum. Cyclic data transport, often in intervals with between 10 µs and a few ms, allow running continuous control and monitoring with a predefined sample rate.
AMD adaptive technology has cycle-oriented functions in combination with real-time behavior in its Programmable Logic. Dedicated resources in the AMD devices’ digital logic makes solutions deterministic by design.
The trend is to get converged networks. Converged networks combine time-bounded traffic and other traffic types on one common medium.
EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and several other protocols do their work in factories today. Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) is a big step to an even better converged and Ethernet based standardized network. TSN allows networks with a flexible topology and with the versatility to scale over time. The target to acquire and submit all data through one common network interface instead of dealing with multiple networks for specific functions. A convergence like that expands the possibilities for automation remarkably.
The AMD home-grown solutions and the partner ecosystem provide a complete set of industrial networking solutions. Industry leaders and specialists listed below offer their field-proven IP on AMD devices.
Vision related interfacing is also a subset of solutions for industrial connectivity on AMD. GigE Vision, USB3 Vision are high speed interfaces for vision data, while SLVS-EC and MIPI are supported for optical sensor connectivity. Partner companies support this with IP.
S/PDIF and AES are supported for audio connectivity as well as I²S for the transport of PCM sound between devices.
AMD lets you keep up with evolving networking technology. Be among the first to support standards updates even in products that you already delivered. That saves the value of your developed assets and allows your customers to be armed for future Industrial IoT applications. The seamless integration of networking protocols in AMD SoCs.
