Radios
Supporting the wide variety of radio technologies is a daunting challenge–let alone keeping up with changing standards and requirements. Only AMD provides a secure, adaptable, standards-compliant solutions for all classes of radios for 4G and 5G networks.
Small Cell to Macro Cell Radios
Each cell radio is unique which is why AMD offers the broad range of capabilities in the AMD Zynq™ UltraScale+™ MPSoC, Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC, and Versal™ adaptive SoC series. Incorporating RF blocks with both the AMD DPD and CFR IP saves power, decreases time to market, and improves scalability. AMD Zynq RFSoC DFE
Meet the new member of the AMD Zynq UltraScale+ portfolio that is laser-focused on the digital front end.
Integrating the Digital Front End
The Zynq RFSoC DFE implements known and compute-intensive DFE functions in hard IP achieving the cost and power economies of an ASIC. To meet diverse and evolving radio requirements the device retains an optimal balance of adaptable logic.
Improving Foundational IP
Hardened IP blocks DPD and CFR are based on AMD proven soft cores and have been enhanced to meet 400 MHz instantaneous BW (iBW) requirements. The direct sample RF converters are based on the Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC Gen 3 with enhancements to operate up to 7.125 GHz.
Nailing the 5G requirements
The Zynq RFSoC DFE supports single-band, multi-band, and multi-mode LTE and 5G NR carriers, with instantaneous bandwidth of 400 MHz in FR1 (up to 7.125 GHz) and up to 1600 MHz for FR2. Up to 8 component carriers for 8T8R FDD and 16 in TDD are supported.

Beamforming and Massive MIMO
5G promises much greater spectral efficiency, enabled by beamforming and massive MIMO. AMD is leading the way, as our solutions have been instrumental in early 5G trials, initial deployments, and massive scale out of mMIMO systems.
Fronthaul, Beamformer, and Radio
Massive MIMO requires adaptable, optimized partitioning and integration of complex digital and RF signal processing functions. The unique AMD portfolio of silicon and IP enables OEM’s to architect systems best suited to their unique requirements to address panel size, weight, power, and cost constraints.
Achieving Panel Density
One of the greatest massive MIMO challenges is achieving panel density. The sheer number of radios puts power and space at a premium. Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC integrates ADCs and DACs to deliver the highest performance per watt solution for interfacing to 5G antennas. These devices also integrate IP for interpolation and mixing as well as allowing for integration of the DFE and CFR in the radio head.
Beamforming Takes a System
Tracking and targeting multiple devices with multiple radios requires sophisticated algorithms and complex real-time processing. Versal AI Core adaptive SoCs provide system-level compute not before seen in a programmable device, enabling on-the-fly calculation of the phase and gain coefficients required by each radio. The embedded AMD AI Engine provides a vector processor ideal for matrix math.

X-Haul and Connectivity Solutions
AMD offers a comprehensive wireless connectivity IP portfolio to address connectivity and synchronization requirements for evolving wireless base station infrastructure needs.
Converged Access Network
AMD provides a path to communicate with each of many disparate radio units or other endpoints, transport them over an arbitrary network, then regenerate each channel remotely. Consolidating into a single, reconfigurable AMD solution reduces upfront system cost and allows the use of inexpensive and scalable packet networks.
Hundreds of Protocols Supported
From O-RAN (eCPRI) to PON to a wide range of Ethernet standards, AMD transceiver technology has the built-in flexibility and performance for any-port/any-protocol X-haul networks. Reconfigurable logic allows for a customized solution based on the required transport product. AMD Versal Premium adaptive SoCs support rates ranging from 1GE to 112Gb/s, facilitating the transport medium of choice, whether that is a single coherent fiber or an existing network.
