An Evolution of Our Commitment
We’re at a precipice of a scientific computing revolution, where computationally intensive problems can now be solved in a fraction of time thanks to high-performance computing.
The AMD HPC Fund puts more computational power in the hands of those conducting groundbreaking research to accelerate solutions to the world’s toughest challenges.
Originally established in 2020 with a focus on powering research to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fund has now been broadened to include other medical and social good research.
Through the Fund, which now integrates the Heterogeneous Accelerated Compute Clusters (HACC) program, AMD provides access to the leading-edge performance of AMD EPYC™ processors, AMD Instinct™ accelerators, AMD Alveo™ accelerators, and AMD Versal™ ACAPs. The researchers at esteemed research institutions and universities around the world will also have access to technical guidance to optimize their experience with AMD technology.
The donations AMD is providing through the HPC Fund have a combined processing power of over 20 petaflops and an estimated market value of $31 million USD1.

Enabling Scientific Research
More than 25 universities in eight countries have already received donations from the AMD COVID-19 HPC Fund to-date. The grants were used to power projects from evolutionary modelling of the COVID-19 virus, to understanding the virus spike protein activation, to large-scale fluid dynamics simulations of COVID-19 droplets as they travel through the air.
Through the AMD COVID-19 HPC Fund, almost 6,000 researchers have had access to AMD computing power for their projects and discoveries, resulting in 25 research papers published so far.
The Heterogeneous Accelerated Compute Clusters (HACC) program supports novel research in adaptive compute acceleration for high-performance computing (HPC). To date 5 of the world's most prestigious universities are part of the program with nearly 30 papers published.
The HPC Fund is a great example of AMD’s commitment to its digital impact goal of 100 million people to benefit from AMD and AMD Foundation philanthropy and partnerships to enable STEM education, scientific research and the workforce of the future by 2025.

Technology We Fund
As part of the COVID-19 HPC Fund, AMD has already donated more than 12 Petaflops of computing power, combining the performance of over 2,300 AMD Instinct™ accelerators with more than 250 AMD EPYC™ 48-core processors.
We are now committing an additional 7 Petaflops of computing capacity consisting of 80 server nodes powered by 3rd Gen AMD EPYC™ processors, AMD Instinct™ MI100 accelerators, AMD Alveo™ accelerators, and AMD Versal™ ACAPs.
The leading-edge performance of our high-performance and adaptive computing solutions will enable researchers and scientists to address the growing demand for compute-accelerated workloads, while reducing the time to insights and discovery.
