AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution

Cross-Platform. Open-Source.

AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution (FSR) boosts performance in professional applications while delivering optimized image quality.1

Architects and other design professionals can leverage FSR for PRO to boost graphics performance in design and visualization workflows such as real-time architectural rendering. FSR for PRO is a cross-platform open-source solution that offers broad hardware and software support on AMD and other vendors’ products.

Quality Settings

FSR offers four quality modes that boost frame rates while retaining as much image detail as possible.  Each preset mode either prioritizes detail (image quality) or puts greater emphasis on frame rate (performance). The input resolution used by the FSR for PRO algorithm depends on the quality mode chosen by the user. For a 1440p output, where native resolution is 2560 x 1440, Ultra Quality mode would render at 1970 x 1108 (77% of native resolution) while providing a small performance gain. It then uses 1706 x 960 (66.6%) for Quality mode, 1506 x 847 (58.8%) for Balanced mode, and 1280 x 720 (50%) for Performance mode which also offers the greatest performance boost.

The chart below shows FSR quality setting modes in ACCA® Edificius, a robust 3D design software for architecture.

Advantages

Frame rate plays a critical role in user experience. Taxing rendering operations such as hardware ray tracing, greater image detail or larger model sizes can create a larger workload than the hardware can handle. This can cause frames to take longer to render and graphics to look choppy. Higher frame rates mean a faster and smoother display quality and better viewing experience. Getting a faster CPU, more RAM, or a newer graphics card may help achieve higher frame rates. However, FSR for PRO can achieve higher frame rates without major changes to the system. Consider these advantages:
