Possible Causes

Error 1603 can be caused by one or a combination of the following:  

  • Graphics driver and software conflicts.
  • False positives reported and blocked by antivirus software.
  • Missing critical and/or important Windows updates.
  • Corrupted Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable files.
  • Corrupted registry keys and/or system files.

Issues Involving Driver Installation

  1. AMD Software is designed to work best with up-to-date operating systems. Please run Windows Update and apply all available critical and important updates before installing the AMD Software Package.
     
  2. Download and use the full AMD Radeon Software package from the AMD Driver and Support page. For instructions on downloading and installing the latest compatible AMD Software Package for your AMD Graphics product, refer to this article.
     
  3. Anti-malware programs may run scans while the AMD Software Installer is performing installation thus preventing access to required files. If this occurred, check your anti-malware programs are up to date then rerun the AMD Software Installer or disabling your anti-malware programs until the installation of the AMD Software Package is complete. 
     
  4. The AMD Software Installer requires certain Windows Services to be present and running on the system to be able to install drivers, such as the Plug and Play service. Make sure that the services required are available and running before launching the AMD Software Installer. Also, to rule out any potential software conflicts, disable any non-Microsoft services and start-up items by performing a selective start-up using the System Configuration Tool. Issues Involving Windows and Windows Installer (.msi files)

  1. Replace corrupted Microsoft® Visual C++ Redistributable files. Visit Microsoft page to download a copy of Microsoft® Visual C++ Redistributable package(s) currently installed on your system.  Once download is complete, install to the package(s) to replace existing Microsoft® Visual C++ Redistributable files that may be corrupted.
     
  2. Repair system registry and files by running the Windows Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) and System File Checker (SFC) tools as Administrator. The DISM and SFC tools scan the integrity of the Windows image and all protected system files replaces corrupted, damaged, and incorrect versions.
     
    • To run the DISM command use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu, then select Command Prompt (Admin). Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" (without quotes) and press Enter. While running DISM you may notice the process will appear to pause at 20%. After a few minutes the operation will continue.
       
    • To run the SFC command use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu and select Command Prompt (Admin). Type "SFC /SCANNOW" (without quotes) and press Enter. For more information on using SFC, please refer to Microsoft article: Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files.
       
  3. Multiple applications may share the same resources for example registry keys, folders, and files. Uninstalling one of the application or manually deleting a shared resource may cause conflicts during software driver upgrade, uninstall scenarios. To resolve conflicts, try running the AMD Cleanup Utility, or use the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter to individually remove components from the currently installed AMD Software Package.

If you are still unable to resolve error 1603 after completing the steps outlined above and need further assistance, please contact AMD Customer Care, and attach the AMD Software Installer log file to your service request. The AMD Software Installer log file is located in C:\Program Files\AMD\CIM\Log\Install.log.

  2. Enter "Error 1603" (without quotes) in the Subject field.
  3. Provide as much detail as possible about your issue in the Description field.
  4. Attach the AMD Software Installer log file to the service request and click Submit.
